Kindly Note:

  The only acceptable method of payment for Visa Fees is by Demand Draft in Indian Rupees (INR). Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of "Consulate General of Italy", payable at Kolkata, India.
27 July 2016: From 01 August 2016 all applicant/s need to pay verification fee before filing an application.

Important Information

As per the instructions received from the Embassy of Italy, New Delhi -From 01 August 2016 all applicant/s need to pay verification fee before filing an application at the VFS Italy Visa Application Center all India and Nepal for “Family re-union” applications. A proof of fee paid needs to be submitted along with the application in originals. Application will not be accepted in case proof is not enclosed. The fee needs to be paid at The South Indian Bank Limited. Below are the details.

01 July 2016: For Report Back, the visa holder needs to mail a scan copy of the Visa page as well as the facing page on the passport within 7 days of his/her return from the Schengen area. Moreover, please note that a visa holder has a Report Back stamp and due to any unforeseen circumstance fails to travel to the Schengen area, even in that case, he/she has to provide the scan copy of the above mentioned pages. It is very important to send the necessary proof of return. Please note that the visa holder may face dire if he/she does not Report Back and send us the necessary proof of return.

10 March 2016: Drop-Box facility at Bluedart Guwahati

Please note that a Drop-Box facility in Guwahati Bluedart Centre has been initiated for outstation applicants’s convenience. Applicants can drop their application in the Bluedart centre which will be forwarded to Kolkata. For more details, please click here.

Italy Visa Application Centre in Kathmandu (Nepal) have introduce Appointment System from 01 January 2016, All the applicant who wants to apply for Italy Visa (short term or long term) from Kathmandu will required to book an appointment.

12 November 2015: Passport requirement.

Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata will not accept passports with any written observations concerning Passport number; Surname; Given Name; Nationality; Sex; Date of Birth; Place of Birth; Place of Issue; Date of Issue; Date of Expiry. Only passports with no observations can be presented. Passports must be machine readable. Handwritten passports cannot be accepted.
07 November 2015: All applicants are required book an appointment online to submit their visa application and Biometric information at the Schengen visa application centre.

As part of the visa application procedure, from 02 November 2015 applicants will need to provide Biometric fingerprint data along with a digital photograph. If you have temporary injuries on your fingers, applicants are advised to wait until the injuries have healed before you book your appointment. Henna on fingertips may also mean we are unable to get a clear scanned image and should be removed or allowed to fade before your appointment date.

Before you make an appointment you should carefully read the visa application process available on the website to submit your visa application and supporting documents at the visa application centre.

If you have missed your appointment on the scheduled day, the system will not allow you to reschedule or cancel and you will require to book a new appointment after 24 hours.

Please make sure you arrive at the visa application centre 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. Applicants are not allowed to be accompanied inside the visa application centre. The only exceptions to this are those accompanying children under 18 years-of-age or applicants who need special assistance for health reasons or disability.

If you are part of a family or group, each member of the family or group must make an individual appointment. For example, if you are a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 children you must make 4 individual appointments.

VFS Global appointment system is compatible with most popular browsers. VFS Global will soon introduce appointment scheduling through call Centre for the ease of applicants.

31 July 2015: Third Party collection of passport not permitted with effective from 1 August 2015

Change in Passport collection process:

The Consulate General of Italy has implemented a change in arrangement for the collection of passport(s) from VFS Global Visa Application Centre. With effect from 01 August 2015, third party collection of the documents or passports will not be permitted, except in the following cases:

  Immediate Family Member (that is Parents, Children, Siblings)
  One member of a group collecting for the entire group
  A person collecting on behalf of Govt. officials if authorized on the Govt. letter head or department
  Representative of a company - Authorization letter on the letter head of the company and the official ID card

If any of the above comes for passport collection they need to carry the following documents

  Photocopy of Govt. ID card
  Original ICR
  Authorisation Letter from applicant

Applicants who do not wish to collect their documents in person and whose documents cannot be collected by one of the above should select delivery mode as courier at the time of submission.

The applicants are requested to mention the complete delivery address on the covering letter. In case no specific address is mentioned on the covering letter, the passport will be sent to the address mentioned on the Visa Application Form.

This procedural change is to ensure the safe and secure return of documents to applicants.
